We would like to introduce a winter obedience training series for the winter of 2026. Below you will find the requirements for attendees, equipment to bring and the tentative weekly schedule. This is a great way to kick-off the 2026 training season. You can socialize your dog and get started on or clean up your dog's obedience skills.
For new members, you’ll have a chance to meet more club members (and their dogs) and ask questions about training, NAVHDA, testing, etc. We’ll wrap up the last session with an overview of what to expect at the field training days and an opportunity to put a Canine Good Citizen title on your dog.
Schedule & Location:
- Begins Monday Feb. 16th
- Duration: 5 weeks
- Time: 5:30-8pm CST
- Location: Kindred, ND
Requirements:
- Must register ahead of time with John Wickenheiser (training@rrvnavhda.com)
- Must be a current and paid full member of Red River Valley NAVHDA
- Membership can be paid Online or in person at the first session
- Cost for course is included with the full chapter membership ($150)
- All dogs must be up to date on vaccinations
- Dogs must be on leash at all times, unless working on specific off leash drills
- Dog may not act aggressively towards people or other dogs
- You are responsible to clean up after your dog
Equipment:
- Standard flat collar
- 6' Leash
- Martingale or prong collar
- Treats and/or clicker if working on treat training
- E-Collar if doing off leash work
At the last session on March 16th, we will provide the opportunity for the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) evaluation. This will be voluntary for those who wish to participate. We will also cover the transition to spring/summer training and how to best prepare and plan for the transition. Do you want to improve your hunting dog? Would you like to learn how to train your young pup or help sharpen your seasoned companion? Red River Valley NAVHDA Chapter is dedicated to helping its members train and improve their Versatile (upland & waterfowl) hunting (pointing) dogs.
Our chapter will help Red River Valley members prepare for these tests by providing you with access to weekly small group training sessions and monthly training days.
